Our family farm since its inception in the 1960's has always had the dream to be a forestry oasis in the middle of the boundless prairie plains. Nestled amidst the vast southern Alberta landscape with expansive 360 degree views of farmland, herein resides Prairie Lane Flower Farm. We're surrounded by the big blue Alberta sky and have a gorgeous westward backdrop of the Canadian Rocky Mountains.
As a farmstead in the middle of the prairies, nearly every tree on site has been chosen, lovingly planted and cared for by our mom; who has always had the vision of her yard being a burst of joy and a haven for the souls who find themselves wandering down her lane. When you walk down Prairie Lane, you feel at home in nature, peace in your inner most core and occasionally the startle from the nearby passing trains.
We are mindful of our impact on the environment and the surrounding ecosystem within our gardens and local fields. We are devoted to using sustainable growing practices. What does that mean? We are committed to adding to the earth’s health, not depleting it. Before our flowers become bouquets and centrepieces for you, they are food sources and homes to the bees and other beneficial insects, of which we have flourishing in our on-site hive! This approach rewards us with blooms that are more fragrant, long lasting, and simply elegant.
Prairie Lane Flower Farm extends the same philosophies that we have for our growing practices to the arrangement of the flowers. We are not looking to control the flowers, but rather, enhance them and allow the flowers to share their story in a free flowing, organic manner. The blooms are the true storytellers. We are here simply to highlight their natural beauty.
The focus of our farm is in unique and specialized ranunculus flowers and both dahlia flowers and tubers.
I'm Christina, grower of Prairie Lane, daughter of third generation farmers who passed down their love of nature and horticulture. When I was a little girl running around on the farm I always dreamed of living in the "big city" and wearing a business skirt. I followed where I thought my passion was and worked in Human Resources for a number of years but there was always something that felt missing. When my husband and I bought our home I jumped in and planted ALL. THE. THINGS. Being connected with nature in the garden I felt a sense of home, back to my 'roots' (pun intended).
Through the years of trial and error gardening, there have been some frustrating ups and downs (if you've ever grown a garden, you know what I'm talking about) to which I have always joked "hey, at least I'm not a full scale farmer, I would never have the heart for such a risky business". Well, fast forward to 2024 and here we are, taking a leap of faith in launching Prairie Lane Flower Farm and I couldn't be more excited. I'm thrilled you're here! Thanks for visiting the website and learning more about us. I hope to be handing you some beautiful flowers soon.
